Dza (Day) 2
Dza no. 2
Today I delved deeper into learning about the functions of Thangka's from Laura's manuscript. Surprisingly, there is a fine discernment of Thangka's as a ritual/ religious object (rather than a decorative art). I was appreciative of the information of the valuable functions that Thangka's serve and she explains what she means when she uses the term "Art". I notice that there is a lack of historical informations in connection to the development of Thangka's, specifically the Cultural Revolution. During which time many monasteries were decimated; religious objects were stolen and banned even in tibetan households which is saying something because the majority of the general Tibetan population are Buddhist to the bone and set aside a shrine room with religious objects such as Thangka's.
Thankfully I has a book called Tibetan Paintings that provided information on a historical background and context. Damn it I wanted to funnel so bad, But I tunneled.
I am getting immersed in researching and academic work that I hope my creative bones don't sass me tomorrow.
